Week 28 Update

Well, we've made it to Week 28!  We're now in the bonus round! :)  This week is a huge milestone as viability increases to 90%.  It also means we had our doctor visits this week.  On Monday, I met my backup doctor and had my glucose test.  It was not nearly as bad as I thought it would be.  Not sure when the results will be in, but decided I didn't feel much different than when I eat a whole box of Peeps so am thinking I'm OK.  Perhaps all these years of Easter candy addiction were just preparation. :)  Today, we went to the perinatologist for our sonograms.   The babies are doing wonderfully!  They are both fully formed & have started to practice breathe.  They have good heart rates and they are weighing in ahead of schedule.   She weighs 2 lbs.  9 oz. and he is coming in at a whopping 2 lbs. 12 oz.   This is the first time he's weighed more than her!   Their fluid is looking good & my body is showing no signs of strain.  Dr. K says this pregnancy is standard vanilla and that she has no concerns whatsoever!  Hey, we'll take that for as long as we can get it!

Starting now, I will go every 2 weeks to my regular doctor.  Then, when I hit 32 weeks, I will start antenatal testing where I go twice a week for sonograms to make sure the babies are not showing signs of distress.  Luckily, that will begin in June so missing work won't be an issue.   With the end of school & all those appointments, time will really fly by.  It's hard to believe they will be here so soon.

Beyond the baby report, this week has brought a lot of organization & preparation.  We also hired a nanny.  I will be going back to work 3 days a week next year so she will come in to our house to take care of the babies on the days I'm at work.  We decided this was the better option since we may have preemies who cannot go straight to daycare (and the thought of getting two infants out the door is daunting!).  Also, it was a little easier on the budget than daycare since we'd have to pay full time and all year.  We are very pleased to have found someone we were so comfortable with and look forward to having her on the Hassler Team!  She has a lot of experience with infants and new moms so we think she'll be invaluable to us on many levels.

Well, thanks, as always for checking in & have a great week!
