Week 32 Update

I had my full evening of doctor visits last night.  Our first trip was to the perinatalogist for the sonogram.  We're learning that sonograms aren't nearly as fun as the babies get bigger!  All we saw were bits & pieces-- they are too big to fit on the screen anymore.  So, we have no pics.  We were able to get a so-so shot of Baby Girl's head, but Baby Boy was not having any of it.  Already, they grow up so fast! :)    Speaking of growth, she is weighing 3 lbs. 13 oz. and he's weighing 3 lbs. 11 oz.  They are a little behind singleton babies right now, which is not unusual, but we'd still like to beef them up as much as possible.  So, I'm told to eat protein, protein, protein.  Sounds good except for bigger babies mean less room for my stomach & a whole lot more acid reflux.  However, once school is done, I'll be able to rest more & eat tiny meals throughout the day so that should help conserve/increase my calories.

My second round of appointments was at my regular doctor.  There I had my first Non-Stress Test (NST) where they hook me up to heart & contraction monitors.  I sit like that for 20 minutes & have to press a button when I feel movement.  They are looking for consistent patterns of heart rate-- slowing at rest, speeding up in motion.  The babies did great and I had no contractions either.  The doctor portion of the appointment was just to go over those results & to touch base.  I will go again tomorrow for another NST and for what is called a Biophysical Profile (BPP).  It's basically a sonogram to evaluate the well-being of the babies.  They look for breathing and movement as well as muscle tone & fluid.  I will go in for an NST/Doctor Visit and NST/BPP each week from here on out.

I'll let you know how the BPP goes.  Hope all is well & everyone had a nice Memorial Day weekend.  Summer has arrived!!!
